Mycelia
MYCELIA is a dance-theatre work that explores the forest as a living, interconnected organism, using mycelium as a metaphor for connection, transmission and transformation.
MYCELIA was developed by Minako Seki and Wolfgang A. Piontek together with an international ensemble and presented by Commedia Futura at Eisfabrik Hannover in 2023.
The work sees the forest as a superorganism, where trees, plants, fungi, animals and humans are all part of an interdependent network. Mycelium, the underground fungal network that connects and nourishes the forest, becomes both a structural and poetic principle of the project.
The stage is conceived as an organism in constant transformation. Bodies appear, connect, separate and reconnect, creating images related to processes of growth, decay, regeneration and transmission.
As part of this collective process, Marjorie Chau contributed as a creative collaborator to the visual development of the work, helping shape its visual world, scenic space, and the creation of textile and costume elements.
